DENVER (IB-November 15, 2008) - Local Promoter Henry Delgado and Top Rank are currently putting together a spectacular show headlined by local super lightweight Mike Alvarado.
Undefeated in twenty-three fights, Alvarado continues to
move toward title contention. In Alvarado’s last fight he stopped Manuel Garnica
in
four
rounds, performing in front of home town fans.
Fighting at home was something Alvarado had not been accustomed to, prior the contest against Garnica, Alvarado had not fought at home since October of 2004. Now he will have back to back contests in front of home town fans.
Should all go according to plan, look for Alvarado to face his toughest opponent to date in former world champion Vivian Harris (29-3-1).
Undefeated bantamweight Leo Santa Cruz (7-0) from Lincoln Heights, California will be the co-main bout. Erie Marquez (7-5) from Fort Morgan, Colorado has been mentioned as the possible opponent.
The undercard will feature a contest between a couple of outstanding amateurs venturing into the land of professionals. Bantamweights Shawn Nichol (1-0) will meet Alejando Castillo in a 4 round contest. Nichol’s had ambitions to represent the U.S. in the Olympics while Castillo has just been walking through opposition, picking up a Ringside Championship in 2004.
Castillo from Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua walked into the Denver Police Brotherhood boxing gym as a pre-teenager and fell in love with the sport. Since that first day at the gym, Castillo has been training hard and fighting as an amateur waiting the day he can turn professional. On December 19, Castillo will step into the ring and fight as a professional.
“This kid has demonstrated an enormous potential to be the best in the business. Since the first day in the gym, Alejandro has had the drive and desire to become a champion. Said Aurelio Martinez
“It doesn’t matter who I fight, I want the people to know who I am and I will do that by beating every opponent I face in the ring.” Said Castillo
Victor Villereal will battle Emanuel Ledezma in a rematch. The two battled to a majority draw on October 3. Look for fighters to give it their all as both fighters felt they won the first contest.
Others to see action include Heavyweights Kenny Lemos (10-6-1) vs Chris Green (4-3-1), Raul Carrillo (debut) vs Stepan Zeytunnyan (1-0), Jorge Carrasco (2-0) and Brandon Sanchez are still without dance partners.
