Barber and Dierdorff Morales and Delgado make weight
DENVER (September 19, 2008) - Tomorrow night from Denver Colorado, fans will be treated to an outstanding night of professional boxing promoted by Moonlight Productions. The main event will feature a female 8 round NABF featherweight title contest between Jennifer “The Razor” Barber (7-0) against Brooke “No Mercy” Dierdorff (4-3-1). The Co-Main pairs up undefeated local fighters Jose “El Asesino Caro Niño” Morales (4-0) and Jairo Delgado (3-0) in a five round contest.
Barber weighed in at 125 lbs. while Dierdorff pressed the scale at 124 lbs.
Barber is coming off a TKO3 win over Adriana Delgado who was a respectable 10-2 coming in. Barber is trained by ex-pug Stan Ward, many may remember him from his fight against Ron Lyle. Dierdorff opened her career 4-0 including a win over Mia St John but has a draw and 3 losses since. Dierdorff looks to get back on track with a big win over Barber.
The CO-Main features pugilist Jose Morales, a fighter not many know much of in Denver but if you look at a brief history, you’ll find a talented and fierce fighter within. Morales pressured the scale at 128 lbs. and Jairo Delgado’s digital numbers read 127 lbs.
Morales is a guy you just see at the gym day in and day out. You don’t read about him much and the boxing talk in town eludes him. With the emergence of new, young Colorado boxers leaving the amateur scene and stepping into the realm of professional boxing, fighters like Morales loom in the shadows of conversation.
Colorado boxing hopes to broaden the fan base with this new generation of boxers turning professional. Amateur sensations like Shawn Nichols and, Tommy Atencio are scheduled to make their debuts on September 20th. Like most good fighters making professional debuts, these guys will be getting their introductions against appropriate opponents.
Morales may not be widely known in Colorado but ask about him in Mexico and you will get a different story. Morales had an outstanding amateur career in Mexico fighting over fifty times losing only twice. He won the Juarez, Chihuahua Golden Gloves and represented, Chihuahua in victory in the national tournament.
His stable mates included some of the best Mexican fighters in the world like Daniel Ponce DeLeon, Armando Bellavista and Saul Duran.
Morales says he had a good 3 years of sparring with DeLeon, Bellavista and Duran while in Juarez, Mexico. Since then, Morales has lived in Denver, working and providing for his family. He turned professional in Colorado and is undefeated.
“I look forward to fighting Jairo (Delgado) it will be an honor to fight another talented fighter so early in my career. Unfortunately someone’s undefeated status must go, and make no mistake, I don’t plan on giving mine up to anyone.” Said Morales (Translated from Spanish)
Morales is trained by Aurelio Martinez and has been vigorously training for this contest, sparring with Donald Camarena and Alejandro Castillo and the rest of the stable of fighters. Morales incorporated a dual training schedule for this contest, after morning training he wouldl go to 20th street gym in the evenings for a second session of work.
“We will go into this fight at 100%, well prepared and ready to perform. I would not expect anything less from Jairo and his team so we can expect a tough fight.” Said Martinez
Delgado is well known in Denver is trained by Anthony Berela and Raul Utajara and displays a stellar amateur boxing history. Ironically Utajara and Martinez worked together in training and developing fighters for the Catacombs and Ghost Town Gladiators stable of boxers. This will mark the first time the trainers will be at opposite corners.
