“Come Together" Boxing Event on Saturday, January 31, 2009
Denver (January 21, 2009) – It’s not an easy task to
bring promoters together to show unity in the boxing community but that’s
exactly what is happening in Denver, Colorado. Aurelio Martinez -
InsideBoxing.com, Jim Smith - Poor Boys Pro Boxing, C.C.
Edwards
- Moonlight Productions and Steve Mestas - Air Tight Boxing announced earlier
the “come Together” boxing event that will be held on January 31rst.
Not only has the show been moving forward but yet, another promoter has joined arms. Henry Delgado and Raul Utajara of Delgado’s Promotions have connected themselves to the promotion.
Now all major Colorado boxing promoters are involved, working hand in hand to put together a fantastic show for the local boxing fans.
5-time champion Donald Camarena will be Headlining the event.
Camarena originally was scheduled to fight against Jose Antonio Izquierdo from Chihuahua Mexico but Izquierdo pulled out saying he could not fight at 142 pounds. After going back and forth in trying to salvage the fight, promoters found out Izquierdo was suspended indefinitely by the Puerto Rico boxing commission.
Promoters tried to get a rematch against Carlos Molina but Molina’s camp wanted nothing to do with it. African Benjamin Ankrah stepped in and agreed to fight Camarena but Joseph Mason the director of boxing in Colorado shot the fight down and would not approve the contest saying he would only allow Ankrah to fight in a six round contest against Camarena.
Camarena will now face Skyler Thompson from Rockford, Illinois. Thompson has 11 wins, nine by knock out with only two losses. Camarena a super lightweight and Thompson a super welterweight agreed to fight at a weight of 146 lbs.
The supporting cast has shaped up nicely as heavyweight Chris Green will face Louis Monaco, Tommy Atencio will fight Nebraskan Brandon Quintana, Brandon Sanchez faces Arnaldo Barra, Shawn Nichol is up against Frank Conseco, Juan Santiago meets Richard Baldo, Brad Jackson against Steve Marquez while Stepan Zeytunnyan is without an opponent.
The event will be held on Saturday, January 31st at the Softball Country Sports Complex, 2101 West 64th Avenue, Denver, CO. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the first bout commencing at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets prices set at $50 Ringside, $35 reserved, and $25 General.
