You have heard the saying "a fool born every minute", and obviously this must be true with boxing fans taking their place into this "fools" category. At least Don King, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis believe this.
The heavyweight title unification rematch between Lewis and Holyfield has been set, we are told by Greg Fritz, of Don King Productions. Each [King, Holyfield & Lewis] will profit millions of Dollars from this re-match fight. In case you have a short memory, the initial bout took place March 13th between these two fighters. A fight dominated by Lewis only to end up in a controversial draw. A decision which brought out many acquisitions of wrong doings, pay-offs and fight fixing. Well it seems King thinks the dust has settled and time to tap back into the pockets of boxing fans.
We are told this fight will make amends to the disgraceful out come of the first. But did we hear anything about a refund? Instead King wants you to pay another pay per view fee to watch the amends making fight and conveniently put millions of dollars into his bank account, not a bad deal, huh? You won't hear the fighters complaining either, this rematch will line their pockets with a sum somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 million dollars.
The respectable thing to do would have been for this rematch to be televised on network TV, free to the public, however this would have cost King money and I'm not sure the words respectable and King go together very well. And while we are at it, let not let the fighters get off the hook so easily, where do they come off asking 15 Million? How about 30% of the revenue, profit or loss?
Boxing fans can show their dissatisfaction by taking a stance, sit-down, Huelga! Protest this fight by not purchasing the pay per view event. Gamble at Casinos other than the one sponsoring this fight. This is how the boxing fan will win respect. Boxing fans love and overwhelming support the sport but sometimes you must close your eyes in order to see better. If this fight happens then boxing fans truly fall into the category "One born every minute".
