INSIDEBOXING.com (May 22, 2006) – This past Saturday night
Rocky Juarez stepped into the ring with one of boxing’s future hall of fame
fighters
Marco Antonio Barrera and I for one saw Juarez beat the Mexican icon.
Barrera has given so much to boxing and in his prime gave the Mexican fans the
feeling of superiority, especially after Oscar De La Hoya beat Julio Cesar
Chavez in their first encounter and then made Chavez quit in their second.
Like Chavez became “old” after the first fight against De La Hoya, Barrera grew
“old” in this fight against Juarez. You can see it in the “beat up” face of
Barrera, you can see it in his corner in-between rounds.
There is no shame in this game, can you be more obvious than referee Raul Caiz
as to he was favoring in the fight? How do you stop fighters in the middle of a
violent exchange of punches to put a mount piece in? Obviously when the fighter
you favor is jeopardy of being stopped! How do you wait until the minute rest
in-between rounds is over to stop the fight to wipe water off the canvas (water
in the middle of the ring) in the final round of action? Obviously when the
fighter you favor is in dire need of rest!
I’m also told that two of the judges’ 12th round scores were scratched out and
rewritten? I can see one judge making a mistake and filling in the wrong score
in the wrong place but two, in the same round? If this is indeed true, that two
of the judge’s scorecards were scratched out and rewritten, then California
Commissioner Armando Garcia must investigate that both judges made the mistake
and furthermore verify that the replacement figures are in the same handwriting
of that particular judge.
Regardless of any controversy, one thing that came out of this fight is Barrera
is done. If he wants to leave the boxing scene as on of the grand fighters of
boxing, now would be a good time to retire.
The effort put forth by Juarez was an excellent one, he had the once-a-upon-time
in your face body puncher doing a Pernell Whitaker imitation. Juarez was the
aggressor for the entire fight, Juarez landed the most devastating punches and
Juarez landed the most effective punches. Aggression, devastating and effective
punches should outscore a jab on any given Saturday.
When you’re done, you’re done… Are you listening Roy Jones?
