DENVER, CO (IB-December 7, 2002) - A class act.  That’s what we saw from Vernon Forrest, J.C Candelo, Davarryl Williamson, Donald Camarena and Aaron Steadman and special guest former world champion Stevie Johnston this morning.  These professional fighters took time off their busy schedules to accommodate a group of 1st thru 5th grade students.

Fundamental Fun, Inc. has been providing kids with the opportunity to listen and learn from professional athletes for over 12 years.  Hosting sports clinics in all major sport categories.  Today, Fundamental Fun, Inc. put on a Boxing Clinic as each fighter took time to speak to the children about the sport of boxing and guidance in taking the proper paths to become successful in life.

Forrest and Candelo have big fights coming up yet they took the time to come see the kids… A Class Act.  Candelo’s  fight is just a week away and its more than just a fight, it’s a career defining fight!

Candelo meets Angel Hernandez in a NABF title fight with the winner taking the #1 position in the IBF rankings.  This will mean a world title shot at champion Winky Wright but yet, Candelo made time for the kids.  Candelo’s contest against Hernandez will be televised live by ESPN2 Friday, December 13th.

Forrest also has a big fight coming up on January 25, 2003.  And although he is in training he found the time to council this group of Elementary Students.  Forrest along with Charles Watson, trainers Ronnie Shields and Al Mitchell drove over 60 miles from Colorado Springs, CO to Denver just for the kids.

I might add this was not a media event so it’s not like Forrest did this simply to grab media attention.  Promotion to this Fundamental Fun boxing clinic did not include the name Vernon Forest.  For if it had we surely would have had a media frenzy, which would only have taken away from the children’s enjoyment.  Hats off to a true world champion!

Davarryl Williamson, the pride of Colorado and future heavyweight champion of the world started the boxing clinic by demonstrating boxing technique to the elementary students.  Followed by an interactive session where the students participated in a basic boxing routine where they where taught the proper way of throwing punches.  Williamson was a big HIT with the kids as he kept them laughing and smiling.

Local champions Donald Camarena and Aaron Steadman mentored the kids with sound advice on good sportsmanship and how to be good students.

The children were treated to lunch and given a Fundamental Fun T-shirt.  The clinic ended with the kids asking questions and receiving autographs from the fighters.

The boxing clinic was hosted at Dón Carlos Mexican Grill “Food Sports and Entertainment Club”, 3800 Walnut Street, Denver, Colorado 80205

A great job done by all parties involved.
