SPECIAL REPORT "The strategy seems to be working..."
INSIDE BOXING
BY STEPHEN S. JOHNSON
(IB-DECEMBER 29, 2009) The strategy of Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Sr. and GOLDEN BOY PRODUCTIONS (referred to as the "3 conspirators") may be paying off after all.
The latest development has an irate Manny Pacquiao releasing a statement to the Philippine press declaring he has documented every public statement or blog where the above mentioned have accused Pacquiao of using PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs).
What has so infuriated Pacquiao is the statements where the "3 conspirators" have claimed that "the Philippines has the best PEDs in the world". Including his country in this sordid mess has apparently pushed Pacquiao over the top.
Pacquiao says, "Having my name, my country and my place in boxing history tainted by these cowards has me wanting this fight, whether in the ring or the courts, to happen as soon as possible! I cannot believe the outright lies that Oscar, Floyd, Jr. and Sr. have all said and I have the proof. They can continue their denials, but I have gathered every conversation they have made regarding me, my career and my country. They are all a bunch of liars and cowards and will pay for their malicious characterizations!".
WOW!
If Bob Arum still feels he can convince Pacquiao to take the random blood tests and get the fight deal done, there is no better time than RIGHT NOW! Manny Pacquiao is falling into the trap The Mayweathers' and GOLDEN BOY PRODUCTIONS (the "3 conspirators") have cleverly set.
I would've never believed the "head games" Mayweather is famous for would get this rise out of Pacquiao. The allegations of drug use has so upset the Filipino champion that I now believe there will definitely be a March 13th battle between the two unless...
The gentleman Manny Pacquiao has always been has been reduced to an angry, seething person who has allowed these personal attacks to cloud his vision...maybe.
His statement in part reads, "...has me wanting this fight, whether in the ring or the courts, to happen as soon as possible". Once the initial power of the gut-shot rendered by the "3 conspirators" subsides and allows Manny Pacquiao to catch his breath, he will hopefully look at the "big picture".
There should be no rush-to-judgement for Manny Pacquiao. There are many rumors floating regarding this fight and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is the subject of a majority of them. In case you were unaware...
Allegedly, there are as many as 5 casinos along the Las Vegas strip where Mayweather (allegedly) owes on the upper end of six figures. Other rumors have Mayweather in deep debt to some unsavory folks who are patiently waiting (for now) to be reimbursed.
Could this possibly be why the "3 conspirators" are so eager to have the bout in March of 2010 rather than say, July or August? The longer this fight is delayed the more rumors will surface.
If Manny Pacquiao can be patient and let the libel and defamation suit (which has yet to be filed) play its way out, we may all know what the truth of the matter is. One possible scenario...
Should GOLDEN BOY PRODUCTIONS and the Mayweather's offer either an out-of-court settlement or to retract ALL statements, there is absolutely NO WAY they can be painted as anything more than liars and cheats, subjecting them to license revocations (morals clause).
Any satisfactory resolution in Manny Pacquiao's favor cannot be resolved in time for a March 13, 2010 bout...unless HE allows himself to go for the bait the "3 conspirators" have cleverly set.
There really is NO NEED for Manny Pacquiao to be in a hurry!
When the date of March 13, 2010 was first announced, most in the boxing community wondered if that was enough time for Paquiao to properly heal and rest from the battle with Miguel Cotto. Here another part of the "3 conspirators" strategy seems apparent.
After being cleared by his promoter, trainer and feeling himself the March 13th date would work out fine, the "3 conspirators" moved on to Plan B. If Pacquiao is impatient and takes the anytime blood testing deal, don't be surprised if the "3 conspirators" have a Plan C up their sleeves.
At this point, Manny Pacquiao is still the "driver of the bus".
The end result of this mess will, in all probability, go a long way in defining Manny Pacquiao as a politician. Being able to keep a cool head (when anger can get the best of you) is a direct reflection on ones leadership abilities and capabilities.
There seems to be a long road ahead for this mess...IF Manny Pacquiao can remain calm and patient.
