AGAIN... TYSON VS LEWIS
LONDON (INSIDE BOXING) For the umpteenth time promoters for
both Lennox Lewis and Mike
Tyson
are posturing for their much anticipated heavyweight battle.
Adrian Ogun, manager of Lewis, claims that after his guy disposes of Hasim Rahman on April 21st he will be ready to tangle with "Iron" Mike Tyson. Ogun claims the fight will garner around $100 million dollars in revenue making it the richest boxing event in history.
The only problem seems to be the willingness of Tyson manager Shelley Finkel to sit down and entertain serious negotiations. Tyson is supposedly around 4 weeks from being in fighting condition and needs at least one match before meeting Lewis.
Although the Lewis camp would like a bout with Tyson to be held as early as July 21st, the Tyson camp has reportedly indicated the month of September a more likely date.
The date and site for the bout have not been confirmed but Ogun and Finkel both seem to be in agreement that such problems are minimal. Even though the two fighters have contracts to fight for different TV outlets, the money generated should not prevent either from getting in the way of negotiations as both would be well compensated.
Lennox Lewis has reportedly stated that he will retire if Mike Tyson is unable to work out all his business and personal problems in order to make the match.
Mike Tyson has been eerily quiet the past few months with Finkel occasionally making overtures concerning the match.
