(INSIDE BOXING) IBF Lightweight Champion Paul Spadafora has more than boxing on his mind with the passing of his biggest fan, grandfather Eugene Policritti. The 75 year old Policritti lost his long battle with cancer earlier today.

Although I have been critical of some of the boxing decisions rendered by the Spadafora camp, nothing brings into focus what is truly important as does the death of a loved one.

Having suffered the deaths of my ex-wife and step-daughter in a horrible traffic accident in late 1998, I was dealt another traumatic blow when my 26 year old son died of a heart attack in early 1999.

There is nothing in life that is as important as family. The passing of an immediate family member is a devastation that cannot be put into words.

The words "Grandma"and "Grandpa" carry an invaluable connotation within the hierarchy of any family. To lose the premier family member at a time when one is on top of the world as is the young Paul Spadafora, can only add confusion when dealing with one's inner faith.

This is a time when my only concern lies with Paul Spadafora and his family keeping their faith and being strong. The love and strength of the Spadafora family is what will carry them through this tough time.

Boxing is a tough game but life is even tougher. To continue on when a terrible hurt is in one's heart is the ultimate challenge. Here's to hoping the Spadafora family can continue on.

My sincerest and heartfelt condolences go to Paul Spadafora and his family.
