SPADAFORA NEED NOT WAIT
(INSIDE BOXING) The self-proclaimed "Pittsburgh Kid" Paul Spadafora is resting on his laurels with an impressive 32-0 record. This situation will leave Spadafora with an empty feeling as the super lightweight (140 lbs.) division has slowly seen an influx of quality competition emerge.
The well documented weight problem of Spadafora leaves him the option of fighting in his true weight category, 140 lbs. or risking health at the 130 lbs. limit.
The super lightweight division (140 lbs.) currently boasts WBC champ Kostya Tszyu, WBA champ Sharmba Mitchell and IBF champ Zab Judah. These three are most definitely out of Spadaforas’ league. Maybe he can show he belongs with this group by taking on the likes of Hector Camacho, Jr. or John John Molina or Ben Takie or Antonio Diaz. These are excellent competition for anyone looking to make a mark in the 140 lb. division.
The year 2001 has already scheduled several bouts that should make for good boxing conversation. Much of that talk will center on who is fighting whom and who is not fighting at all.
Paul Spadafora can easily fall into the category of the latter and not the former.
