THERE'S NO BOUT A DOUBT IT

(INSIDE BOXING) March 20 - Any remote possibility of New York, Memphis or Washington D.C. hosting a heavyweight title bout featuring Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis is finished.

The pretender to the throne of heavyweight champion (Lennox Lewis) has finally admitted what everyone in the boxing community already knew. He is afraid of “Iron” Mike Tyson.

The Heavyweight Champion of the World is supposed to be “the baddest man on earth”. Lennox Lewis officially acknowledged Mike Tyson as that man on Tuesday, March 19, 2002.

Yesterday, Lennox Lewis requested $500,000 compensation for the alleged bite he incurred in the scuffle announcing the Tyson vs. Lewis heavyweight title match originally scheduled for April of this year.

Not only was this $500,000 payment for the bite Lewis contends Tyson gave him in the melee, but for any illegal injuries he might incur should there be a Lewis vs. Tyson bout.

Why would Lennox Lewis make such a ridiculous demand? The answer is obvious. The now verified fear Lewis has for Tyson would be understandable were it not for Lewis always claiming he wants Mike Tyson.

When the obstacles of venue and licensing had been taken care, Lewis suddenly wants compensation for injuries allegedly suffered at the hands of Tyson. Both past and future injuries, claims Lewis, demand such compensation.

Try asking your present insurance company to consider such compensation for any claim you have made…and might make in the future.

Lennox Lewis has always been considered the Heavyweight Champion of the World that his place in the history books needed only one victory. A victory over the once invincible Mike Tyson would give him that place.

Mike Tyson may well decide to pay Lewis the $500,000. He may well decide that paying the money will allow the fight to be set. He may well be thinking of running for governor of Nevada. None of the above has a chance.

The heavyweight division is now left with Chris Byrd, John Ruiz, Evander Holyfield and the Klitchko brothers as the best. There is not much interest in seeing either Lennox Lewis or Mike Tyson beat up on any of the above mentioned fighters.

Lennox Lewis should act like the “baddest man on the planet” and fight Mike Tyson. He should be able to handle Mike Tyson by any means necessary. If Tyson bites, bite him back. If Tyson kicks, kick him back.

The very idea Lennox Lewis requires financial compensation from Mike Tyson says it all. He should want to get Tyson in the ring and get his compensation by kicking Tyson’s ass!

In the heavyweight division one thing is now very clear. There will be no Lewis vs Tyson bout. Tyson the bully reigns supreme.

Lennox Lewis is afraid of “Iron” Mike Tyson. The also-rans of the division may now make their claim to the title.

Make no bout a doubt it.
