STEPHEN S. JOHNSON

This past year of 2003 produced many surprises in professional boxing.

Roy Jones, Jr. becoming heavyweight champ, Vernon Forrest defeating “Sugar” Shane Moseley, Ricardo Mayorga destroying Vernon Forrrest and “Sugar” Shane Moseley surprising Oscar de la Hoya were just a few of the bouts that injected enthusiasm and excitement into the topsy-turvy world of the sport called “professional boxing”.

One of the biggest surprises came when heavyweight DaVarryl Williamson and welterweight Donald Camarena exploded onto the national scene.

Having two fighters from the Denver, Colorado area getting well-deserved national attention was both gratifying and stimulating for the boxing enthusiasts of Colorado and the surrounding states.

2004 seems prepared to provide every bit as much excitement as did 2003.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Roy Jones, Jr., Corey Spinks, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Moseley, Bernard Hopkins and Kostya Tszyu will all attempt to establish themselves as the “man to beat” in their prospective weight classes.

With the Colorado fighters emerging onto the national scene, INSIDE BOXING will be providing even more in-depth professional boxing reporting.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
