CALVIN BROCK – READY TO GET HIS JUMP ON LIFE

(IB – November 05, 2006) – From the Madison Square Garden in New York, and televised on HBO, the boxing world will come to know just who is Calvin Brock come next Saturday, November 11th 2006.

While most observers, along with most folks in the boxing business, feel that Brock is just another opponent and a huge underdog going against Wladimir “Steelhammer” Klitschko (46-3, 41 KOs) for IBF & IBO heavyweight championship, I must state that I disagree.

I believe that the perfect stage is set for Calvin “The Boxing Banker” Brock (29-0, 22 KOs) to get his jump on life and cash in by becoming the heavyweight champion of the world by dethroning Klitschko. I just believe Brock has the lateral movement, along with the hand and foot speed, complimented by the necessary punching power, to cause a lot of problems for Klitschko. Wladimir’s best punch is a straight right hand. While that punch was very effective against southpaw Byrd, I doubt that punch will be landing with any consistency against a conventional fighter like Brock who has good defense.

After interviewing Calvin’s dad yesterday, Mr. Calvance Brock, now I am truly convinced that Brock will prevail and be the victor of this contest, which will swing another heavyweight championship belt back in the ownership of an American fighter.

Here is output of the interview with Calvin’s Dad:

RB: Mr. Brock, take me back to the day you received the phone call that Calvin is being offered to fight Klitschko for the world championship. What was that like receiving that call?

CB: “Well, we had been offered the fight twice before. It wasn’t the way we wanted it to come off. The offer wasn’t right. We weren’t only looking for fighting for the world title, we were also looking at, is it worth us fighting for the world title for what someone else wants to give us vs. what we wanted to have for fighting for the world title? It meant more to us to be going into the world title fight as a respected contender and an undefeated fighter. The only way for us to accomplish that was to have the terms and conditions correct. So we turned the offer down twice. This time the offer came as, well what do you want to fight for the world title? So we said now we can talk on our terms.”

RB: What does it feel like for you to be that connected into your son’s profession?

CB: “When we set out in the beginning. We set out with a common goal and we were in agreement the whole time and had faith that we would get to this point. I feel I can talk to you about this, whereas I can’t talk to some of the others about this point of view. He who puts his hands to the plow and turns back is not fit for the kingdom. We can go on that premise that once we sat out to accomplish the goal, and we applied faith to it, it was already done, it was already ours and it belonged to no one else. So for us to pull back and start thinking we are not going to make it, or give up, we would be defeating ourselves. In essence, we would be giving away what we had already received. I am the father, he is the son, he is the fighter and I am the trainer. We were the only team that we had at that point. We took what we had and no matter what we had to go through, we were going to come to the end because we knew the end from the beginning.”

RB: What do you see Calvin bringing to the stature of being the heavyweight champion of world?

CB: “His Character, because before, you had Mike Tyson as the icon of the sport. I believe that hurt the sport as much as it helped the sport. The sport went into a decline. I believe a lot of people not only want an American champion, I believe a lot of people want an American champion with character.

RB: What fighters that came along before Calvin does he view as his favorites?

CB: “He liked Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Leonard, he liked Hagler, and his favorite was Pernell (Sweet Pea) Whitaker.”

RB: So tell us Mr. Brock, how do you see next Saturday night unfolding?

CB: “I see Wladimir Klitschko relinquishing his title to Calvin Brock next Saturday night.”

Well fans, you heard it straight from Calvin’s proud father, Mr. Calvance Brock. Will this mark the second consecutive weekend whereas an American fighter gains a world title in the heavyweight division?

I don’t know about you but I sure don’t want to miss this fight. So be sure to tune into HBO next Saturday night and see if this is the night, that Calvin Brock gets his jump on life!

One thing for sure is, you now know a little more about the Brock family even before he actually becomes the heavyweight champion of the world. Imagine that parade taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina!
