LAS VEGAS, NV (IB - February 28. 2003) - As a follow up to the dispute yesterday
at the weigh-in regarding the mismatch in the size of the boxing gloves, both
camps met this afternoon with the Nevada commission and came to an agreement.
ISSUE - Both fighter's gloves were manufactured by GRANT and the difference was
that Jones' pair was large, and Ruiz's pair was extra large. However, they both
were 10 ounces each respectively.
RESOLUTION - A new set of GRANT 10 ounce extra large gloves were unpackaged in
front of both camps and the Nevada commission. After thoroughly reviewing each
pair, both camps agreed to go with the new set of gloves.
Norman Stone did make the request to Marc Ratner, Director of the Nevada
commission, " I would like to take one white glove and one brown to my lawyer to
cut open and bring it back to you and I will prove to you what is going on."
This request wasn't granted at this particular point in time.
Marc replied, "I will keep all of the gloves in my possession and the new pair
will be kept with me until fight time."
So for now, this issue is dead and the Nevada commission proceeding with going
over the rules with each fight camp.
The next time each camp will meet will be Saturday night in the ring.
Hey, what's a great fight without a little controversy?
