HOW MUCH RISK IS ROY WILLING TO TAKE AGAINST TARVER?
By Ron Brashear
Tampa, Florida (IB 9/30/2005) – As we countdown to tomorrow night’ return of Roy
Jones Jr. (49-3, 38 KOs) coming back to take on Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver
(23-3, 18 KOs), in Tampa, Florida and televised on HBO PPV, plenty of fans are
curious to know; how much risk is Roy willing to take? This is a very good
question and one that should dictate what type of bout we are about to witness.
The longer the fight goes, the less exciting this fight may turn out to be.
Reason being: If Roy brings a cautious approach to the bout and decides he wants
to make this fight a chess match, and puts most of his focus on not making any
mistakes, this may be an uneventful bout that will spark boos throughout the
arena. It’s like the cliché “One fighter is scared, and the other one is glad of
it.”
However, on the other hand, if Roy is willing to truly put his machismo on the
line in a quest to take Tarver out and be willing to mix it up to get Tarver’s
respect, then this will be one hell of an exciting fight! These are the unknowns
coming into this fight. I am hopeful that it will be the latter and boxing fans
in Tampa, and all around the world that are ordering this bout, will be
thoroughly entertained.
Regardless of the outcome, I truly believe the perfect title was
selected for this event, “NO EXCUSES”. So may the best man win and
may the fight fans enjoy! There are still a few tickets left and the cable
operator’s lines are still open.
