DENVER, CO {Inside Boxing – August 12, 2005) – The Denver fans came out to the Pepsi Center to see what the buzz was all about with local boxing prospect Donald Camarena. With the hometown crowd, the national spotlight on ESPN’s Friday Night fights, and headlining the main event, Camarena (16-1, 9 KOs) put on a superb performance and retained his WBC Continental America’s Super Lightweight championship with a dominating unanimous decision victory over the formidable and rugged challenge from Jorge Padilla (6-2,1 KOs). Judge Jerry Roth scored the fight 96-94, Judge Steve Waldman and Judge Ed Kugler scored the bout 98-92, all three in favor of Donald Camarena.

This was a very action-packed and tactical fight between two fighters that came to fight and who came to win. Padilla had his moments on a couple of occasions in the early rounds by his busy attack, but it was Camarena that showcased the pure boxing skills. In the second half of the fight, Donald Camarena began putting together lead straight overhand lefts to the face of Padilla and kept him off balance most of the fight. Camarena also displayed masterful defense against the ropes and constantly had Padilla missing with a lot of his punching. In addition to just slipping the punches, Camarena was able to land good counter shots to the body and the head of Padilla.

In the end, it had become obvious that Camarena possessed the superior skills and is a fighter that you are sure to be hearing more about in the near future. Even ESPN’s analyst Teddy Atlas had high remarks for Camarena. “He passed the test tonight. He showed me character.”

Not only did Camarena pass the test, he has now been elevated into the spotlight and there will surely be a lot of cameras on Camarena now!
