OSCAR TO FIGHT FLOYD JR.

Note: An official announcement will be made later today from the MGM Hotel
and Casino, Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV. (IB
– November 18, 2006) – Well fans, it’s official! Floyd Mayweather Sr. will be in
De La Hoya’s corner on May 5th 2007 for the
mega
fight between boxing’s biggest and brightest stars when Oscar “Golden Boy” De La
Hoya (38-4, 30 KOs) defends his WBC Light Middleweight title against boxing’s #1
Pound-For-Pound Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather Jr. (37-0, 24 KOs).
I, like many, were wondering whether or not Floyd would actually train De La
Hoya to fight against his own son? This was one of the BIGGEST questions
surrounding this mega-fight. Well, I have the answer and I received it directly
from my friend, Mr. Floyd Mayweather Sr.
I called Floyd at his house today at approximately 12:30 PM Pacific Time in
Vegas and here is what Floyd Sr. had to say.
RB – Ron Brashear FMS – Floyd Mayweather Sr.
RB: Floyd, now that it’s official that Oscar will be fighting Floyd Jr. what
will be your role in this fight?
FMS: “Ron, I am going to do my job and my job is to train Oscar to whip little
Floyd.”
RB: So Floyd, are you saying its official that you will train Oscar in this
fight?
FMS: “Absolutely, this is my job and I and going to teach my son a lesson.”
RB: How difficult was it for you to come to this decision Floyd?
FMS: “I really didn’t want to fight my son. He had came to Grand Rapids early
this year with his friends and when they saw me, he didn’t even speak to me.
Even though his friends spoke to me but he didn’t speak. Then he also comes into
the gym here in Las Vegas and doesn’t even acknowledge his father. He is a very
disobedient son and he needs to be taught a lesson.”
RB: What is causing all of this friction Floyd?
FMS: “Ron, I really can’t even tell you. I know he and I had some differences
about Jay Prince in the past and I don’t want to go into details about that
because its old news now. I believe if you were to ask him what is the beef
about, he probably couldn’t even tell you. So I don’t know what the beef is
about either, it’s on him.”
RB: I must ask this Floyd since I have met your Mom and I have a great deal of
respect for Mrs. Mayweather, how does she feel about all of this?
FMS: “My mom told me to go do what I have to go do.”
RB: What would you say to folks that feel that it’s inappropriate for you to
train De La Hoya against Floyd Jr.?
FMS: “I could care less. They would have to be in my shoes and you can’t say
what you would do unless you are in my shoes. The bible evens states; a
disrespectful kid’s days will be shortened. I have a disobedient son. He doesn’t
respect me, therefore I will do what I have to do and I will do my job by
training Oscar to beat him.”
RB: So let me ask you this Floyd, do you still love your son?
FMS: “At the end of the day, he is still my blood and he is part of me. I still
love me and I still love my son, little Floyd.”
RB: Do you foresee this fight changing the relationship between you and your son
in any way?
FMS: “I can dictate that. I will let the man above take care of this part. I
just know my son has disrespected me, put me out of his house, and has
embarrassed our family in this way. So I don’t know how the fight will change
anything. I hope it changes things for the better though.”
RB: What is your prediction on this fight Floyd?
FMS: “To tell you the truth, I am looking for little Floyd to get stopped. But I
hate to see it but Father knows best and this is what he needs.”
RB: Is there anything else that you would like to share with me at this time
Floyd?
FMS: “After May 5th, little Floyd will longer be pound-for-pound, he will be
clown-for-clown!”
RB: On a quick side note Floyd, what is your opinion about Roger being
interviewed by HBO from behind bars prior to Floyd’s fight against Baldomir?
FMS: “I wouldn’t have taken the interview from behind bars. A guy has to be a
fool to want to be interviewed behind bars. You can’t fault HBO for this move.
That was Roger’s doing and a stupid decision. What kind of message is that
sending out to our youth, its cool to be in jail?”
RB: Floyd, as always, thank you so much for granting Inside boxing this inside
scoop.
FMS: “Anytime Ron, see you at the fight!”
The boxing world is going to be treated to a historic moment indeed come May 5th
2007. This will also mark the 1st time in boxing history whereas a fighter will
be a championship match and have his own father in the other guy’s corner. I
also believe this will be the 1st time in boxing history whereas brothers will
be the trainers of each fighter. Roger will be training Floyd Jr., and Floyd Sr.
will be training De La Hoya.
Put all of this on top of the most highly anticipated bout to come along in the
last 20 years, and you have a boxing extravaganza!!! Where will you be on May
5th, 2007 when boxing history unfolds? I know that I will be in Las Vegas to see
how this one unfolds live and in living color!
