INSIDE BOXING (LAS VEGAS 09/13/02)- Both fighters weighed in at the 154 pound limit. So the stage is set, the talking has ceased; the time has finally come to either PUT OUT or get KNOCKED OUT! Oscar “The Golden Boy” De La Hoya (WBC Champion - 34-2, 27 KOs) and “Ferocious” Fernando Vargas (WBA Champion - 22-1, 20 KOs) will do battle the Super Welterweight / Jr. Middleweight Championship fight on Saturday, September 14th from the Mandalay Bay Resort and televised on HBO PPV.

The weigh in was open to the public and the fans packed the arena to full capacity to see these two fighters tip the scale. De La Hoya and Vargas were taunting each other during the proceedings and both sides had a great deal of supporters on hand to cheer them on.

If the outcome of this fight were solely dependent on how sculpted these two fighters looked, you would have to give the edge the Vargas. While De La Hoya looked trim and fit, Fernando appeared to not have even an ounce of body fat on him at all. This is the best that I have ever seen Vargas look for a fight. However, the outcome of this fight will not hinge on physique alone, at some point during this fight, one man will have to impose his will on the other man.

So, there shouldn’t be any excuses for the outcome of this highly anticipated bout. May the best man win!
