Lacy and Reid: My Choice
By Tom Donelson

August 4, 2005 - Jeff Lacy is facing the biggest fight of his life against Robin Reid. Reid has fought the toughest fighters of the division and has the style to bother Lacy. Reid is an excellent counterpuncher with a tough chin, which means Lacy may not be able to stop him. Lacy is facing one of the division best before a possible showdown against Calzaghe.

Reid advantage is his excellent boxing skills and a great chin that can survive Lacy onslaught. Lacy advantages are that he is the younger fighter and has more pop in his punches. Lacy strategy is to pressure Reid and force Reid to stand and fight. Reid strategy is to deflect the Lacy onslaught and out box Lacy.

This could be Reid last shot so he must win. A lost will be more devastating to Reid than to Lacy, who is young enough to restart his career. Win or lose, Lacy will be a fixture in the championship picture for years to come. Reid’s career will be over as a championship fighter. So Reid will be at his best.

Reid will win the early rounds but Lacy’s pressure could turn the tide in the middle rounds. In his fight against Syd Vanderpool, Vanderpool won the early rounds before he succumbed to Lacy’s pressure. This fight will be similar as Lacy will outwork Reid but unlike Vanderpool, Reid will go the distance. Close decision in Lacy’s favor.
