article indicating that this fight would be a toss-up, a flip of the coin,
I had no idea that it would be a coin that only had tails on both sides.
Apparently these judges were not using their HEADS because there were
quite a few rounds where Barrera was getting his TAIL kicked.
Although it didn't quite topple the masterpiece of a boxing performance of their 1st fight back in February of 2000, this was a very nice display of two Mexican superstars show casing their craft in front of a highly charged audience at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. The only disappointment I walk away with is the judging that took place for this fight. Since it was not worthy of capturing the headline or bulk of this story, allow me to begin by discussing the great fight that took place.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (INSIDE BOXING June 22, 2002) - Tonight the judges settled the score, turned a wrong into a right. An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth, what’s good for the Goose is good for the Gander.
Like the first encounter between Marcos Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales, we witnessed a grand battle. The judges awarded the wrong contestant the victory. In the rematch tonight we witnessed the same.
Somehow, it still does not feel right. More
LAS VEGAS, Nev.
(INSIDE BOXING June 21, 2002) - WBC featherweight champion Erik Morales
has
something to prove Saturday night when he steps into the
ring opposite Marco
Antonio Barrera.
Both fighters officially weighed in Friday at 126 pounds. With all the
preparation behind them now, the only thing left to do is fight. And fight they
will.
Morales beat Barrera in their first encounter by split decision in a battle labeled "Fight of the Year" by Ring Magazine. Two judges awarded Morales the victory with scores of 115-112 and 114-113, while the third judge gave Barrera the nod with a score of 114-113. As the scores indicate, the fight was close and it was a battle where neither fighter would accept defeat. Morales officially won the first fight while Barrera never acknowledged defeat and to this day, maintains he won the fight. More

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (INSIDE BOXING 6/20/2002) - On Saturday night, 6/22, at the MGM Grand live from Las Vegas, Erik Morales (41-0, 31 KOs), will put his WBC World Featherweight Title on the line against the #1 Challenger Marco Antonio Barrera (54-3, 39 KOs) in a highly anticipated rematch. In case you missed their 1st bout on 02/19/2000, which Ring Magazine voted FIGHT OF THE YEAR 2000, you definitely do not want to miss this one. Its not often that re-matches live up to the hype and statue of the original fight, however, its hard to imagine that this one will not. These two featherweight warriors will put the pride of Mexico on Center Stage come Saturday Night. Morales is from Tijuana and Barrera is from Mexico City. More

Whew,
close one.
Tuesday night in Las Vegas, Marco Antonio
Barrera and Erik Morales ran into each other in the valet parking area at
the MGM Grand.
Apparently, Barrera was arriving in a van from his
training camp in Big Bear, Calif., and Morales was returning from his
workout at the Top Rank gym.
Talk about coincidences
According to Fight News, disaster was avoided when
Morales was kept inside his own air-conditioned van while Barrera checked
into the MGM. More
