DE LA HOYA SCHOOLS MOSLEY BUT LOSES THE DECISION Las Vegas, Nevada, (Inside Boxing, September 14, 2003) – Oscar De La Hoya had a plan for Mosley, his plan was to neutralize Shane Mosley’s speed. De La Hoya’s plan may have worked in the ring but not with the judges as they award the contest by unanimous decision to Mosley. It was obvious his plan was to work his jab and deliver combinations off the jab. The plan worked more or less to perfection as Mosley could only follow De La Hoya in hopes he would make a mistake. De La Hoya was connecting 2-3 punches to every 1 Mosley would land. More MOSLEY REPEATS OVER DE LA HOYA – OR DID HE? LAS VEGAS (Inside Boxing – September 13, 2003) – Imagine witnessing a fighter over come one of the most difficult task of avenging a defeat to only discover what seemed to be obvious, just became not so obvious. That’s what happened to Oscar De La Hoya (36-3, 29 KOs) against “Sugar Shane” Mosley (39-2, 35 KOs) on this night in their rematch for WBA/WBC Super Welterweight titles. Unless my eyes where playing a trick on me, I saw Oscar De La Hoya put on masterful boxing exhibition and actually out box Sugar Shane Mosley. I had Oscar winning at least 7 out of 12 rounds, with a case even possibly being made to score the bout 8 rounds to 4 in favor of De La Hoya. Therefore, I'm struggling to understand how all three judges saw this fight as 115-113, which relates to scoring the fight as 7 rounds to 5 all in favor of Mosley. This was not the same De La Hoya that Mosley faced three years earlier. Call it as you may, but Floyd Mayweather’s stamp was all over Oscar’s performance and this was the best I have seen Oscar look in the way of overall boxing skills. He was heralded as one of the best “Pound For Pound” fighters after his narrow victory against Oscar de la Hoya in June of 2000. A lot has happened since. Looking at his career since the turn of the millennium, Shane beat Willie Wise by TKO 3 in Jan. 2000, then in the biggest fight of his career, he dethroned Oscar De La Hoya by SD 12 in July of 2000. In Nov. he beat the mediocre Antonio Diaz by TKO 6. Sugar Shane rode a wave of popularity for a while, getting commercial deals, lots of favorable press and always baring that million-dollar smile. LAS VEGAS, Nevada (14 de Septiembre) - Para muchos reporteros, incluyendo a un servidor y hasta al famoso Cucuy de la radio fue un Sabado Negro porque nos dieron credenciales con borde negro con solo acceso a la primera fila, pero de la television en pantalla y no en la Arena. Fue una gran sorpresa para al menos 200 miembros de diferentes lugares que querian cubrir el evento en vivo y a todo color y estabamos que echabamos chispas por los ojos porque la empresa no tuvo la amabilidad de darnos la opcion de asistir a una sala de prensa. Pero eso si hubo mucha comida y liquidos para que se calmaran un poco los animos. En el MGM sede del historico combate que sin duda rompera marcas impuestas en otros eventos de todos colores, se estreno un sala de prensa a la merita entrada para la Arena donde los reporteros tenian conectados sus radios hacian su difusion y las computadoras y celulares no pararan de trabajar. Pero antes como todo critico de todo, hablare de la comida ofrecida y la calificacion de gusto en lo personal, estuvo de muy bajo grado (aunque peque de limosnero y con garrote) pero quede muy descepcionado porque estaba acostumbrado a la comida mexicana que Oscar ofrece en casi todos sus eventos como promotor y como peleador, pero de todos modos con hambre todo sabe bueno. Como fuimos invitadas a la ceremonia de propaganda, no la pensamos dos veces y mi comadre Mina rápido agarró su cámara y nos fuimos a uno de los salones convencionales de casino MGM aqui en Las Vegas, a donde llegamos desde las 5 de la tarde, primero no había mucha gente y el buffet estaba delicioso, habia desde comida maritima hasta simple ensalada preparado ante nuestros ojos por un chief exclusivo. Para cuando llegó Oscar como a eso de las 6 ½ p.m. apenitas acababa de comer y me levante para admirar su rostro de artista y esa sonrisa que tiene que me vuelve loca y que me perdone su esposa Millie a la cual también respeto y admiro.
