LAS VEGAS, NV (IB – May 14, 2004,) – Well fights fans, Jones and Tarver came
face-to-face again today for the weigh-in the
Mandalay
Bay Islander Ballroom. This event was open to the public and both sides received
a modest show of support from the fans.
Antonio Tarver weighed-in first at the light heavyweight limit of 175 lbs. Then
Roy Jones Jr. tipped the scales at 174 lbs.
There should not be any excuses per both of these combatants appear to have
trained very hard and look to be in superb shape.
After
they weighed in, both of the fighters had their moment on the microphone to
share their expectations of the outcome of this Saturday night’s fight.
Jones conveyed, “In the last fight, two of the judges said I won – one of the
judges said nobody won – nobody said he won!” Being the man that I am, when he
asked could we do it again? I said ok because this is apparently what the fans
want to see. That’s the only reason I’m here right now.”
Tarver then conveyed, “I’m not big on words but if he hasn’t made a believer out
of me by now, all of that smart talk aint going to change my mind. Bottom line
is I’m just glad all of you will be here to see it for yourself. It’s a new
beginning, Roy Jones has been a great ambassador for the sport, but his time is
up.”
Well fans, in a matter of a little more than 24 hours, everyone’s time will be
up for the talking and the fighting must begin.
This fight has the potential of being a memorable event and laced with something
very spectacular unfolding before our very eyes.
Will it be Tarver dethroning the “Superman” Roy Jones Jr? Or will we witness Roy
display the skill sets that widen the gap of being great vs. just being good?
I’m personally pulling for the fight fans and the sport of boxing and hoping for
a very exciting bout that has a dramatic conclusion…
In closing, if you are unable to join us here live in Las Vegas, it’s not too
late to contact your cable provider to view the showdown – “It’s More Than
Personal.”
