Los Angeles – (IB-September 26, 2009) – Klitschko came out controlling the fight with his long reach advantage and pumping the left jab and landing occasional right hands.  While it was clear that Klitschko was winning the early rounds, it appears he was breathing heavy and it was Arreola pressing forward.  I gave the 1st three rounds to Klitschko and gave the 4th round to Arreola for closing the distance and beginning to land some of his punches.

In round 5, Klitschko re-took control and stayed away from Arreola and landed his jabs.  So at this stage, I had the fight 4 rounds to 1 for Klitschko but with Arreola pressing on and having Klitschko in retreat mode.  I gave Arreola the 6th round.

The 7th round went to Klitschko for being the busier fighter and landing the left jab followed by overhand right.

In the 8th round, Klitschko bloodied Arreola’s nose and controlled the round.  At this stage, I had the fight scored 6 rounds to 2 in favor of Klitschko.  The 9th round was more of the same and Klitschko continued to land his overhand rights to head of Arreola.

After more of the same in round 10, the fight was called to a halt by referee Jon Schorle on the advice of his trainer Henry Ramirez.  Henry stated, “I had to stop it. He was taking too many punches and Cristobal was irate at me for stopping it but I had to do it.”  He had seen enough and Arreola’s face was very telling of the amount of punishment that he was absorbing and it was only going to get worse.

Vitali Klitschko improved his record to (38-2, 37 Kos) and Arreola’s record dropped to (27-1, 24 KOs).  While it was not the conclusion that the pro-Arreola crowd wanted to see, it was a very good display of boxing by the champion, Klitschko.
