NEVADA STATE ATHLETIC COMMISSION TO FILE OFFICIAL COMPLAINT -VARGAS TESTED POSITIVE

INSIDE BOXING (10/03/02) - As a follow up to our September 27th article about  Vargas' confirmed positive test for Steroids, I had the opportunity today to speak with Marc Ratner (Exec. Director) of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Ron: So Marc, has the official complaint been filed yet?

Marc: I have the "official" complaint in my hand now and it will be filed tomorrow morning (10/04/02) at 8:00 AM Pacific time with the Deputy Attorney General of Nevada."

Ron: What happens next? More

CONFIRMATION - VARGAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR STEROIDS

INSIDE BOXING (09/27/02) - It has been  confirmed by the Nevada Athletic Commission, namely Marc Ratner (Executive Director), that Fernando Vargas' post-fight urinalysis test came back positive for Stanozolol. It is a synthetic anabolic steroid related to the natural hormone testosterone.

I spoke very briefly with Mr. Ratner and he was only able to state at this time, "We have a confirmed positive result." I also asked Marc could he elaborate on what type of punishment the commission could impose on Vargas for this type of violation? Marc replied, "It's not appropriate to speculate on the outcome. However, I will say this, Vargas will be afforded complete due process." More

When Muscle Mouth Meets ‘Goody-Two-Shoes’ Fists

INSIDE BOXING (9/15/02) - Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay in L.V. Nevada, Bookies were going crazy with all the ebb and flow of the odds. Fight fans have been speculating for over a year now about how this fight between “The Golden Boy” Oscar de la Hoya and “Ferocious” Fernando Vargas would end up.

Their animosity is common knowledge. According to Vargas, as a teen that greatly admired De La Hoya, he was training up in Big Bear at the time and fell in the snow, when Oscar, who was running the same trail, saw Fernando fall and raise his hand for help. Instead of helping him up, De La Hoya laughed at him and kept running. Vargas was a big fan of Oscar’s before this fall in the snow business happened but his admiration turned to bitter hatred after the incident at Big Bear. More

MAKING THE HATERS HIS MOTIVATORS - GOLDEN BOY SHINES AGAIN!

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (INSIDE BOXING (   09/15/02) - Well fight fans, if you happened to be one of the De La Hoya haters, now consider yourself as actually one of his motivators! Oscar silenced many critics who thought that "The Golden Boy" could no longer shine. If you recall my pre-fight article titled, "GOLDEN BOY IS LIKE 14K" it said it all. Just because over time he seemed to have lost some of his luster, all it took was some polishing up and he is back to looking brand new.

Let's face it; he didn't just beat a weak opponent in Vargas. He overcame adversity by a strong, courageous young lion that had harmful intentions with the blows he was connecting on De La Hoya. However, in the end, it was Vargas who got taken to school by a Superstar that had been on stage in World Championship fights 22 times before. Oscar took this fight out of the judges' hands with a TKO! More

MOSLEY SPEAKS OUT

Ron - Shane you have fought De La Hoya and defeated him and  you have seen Vargas fight in the past.  Share your insight with us on how this fight may unfold?

Shane - "The reason why I believe De La Hoya can outpoint Vargas is because Oscar is a great technician. He has a sharp left hook and a great left jab to keep Vargas at bay.

Although Vargas is a great fighter and counter puncher as well.  He throws a nice one-two combination.  I just see De La Hoya out-boxing him.  If Oscar gets into any trouble, he can always just move around.  In this fight, Vargas is suppose to be the stronger guy. The guy that presses the action and we know that De La Hoya has been working with Floyd Mayweather Sr. and is working on his boxing. More

BAD BLOOD OR JEALOUSY

INSIDE BOXING (September 3, 2002) - For years we’ve all heard about the bad blood between Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas. We also fail to know or understand why.
We have heard all the possible scenarios including: both are from Los Angeles and only one can be top dog; Vargas claims De La Hoya disrespected him.  And the feud goes on without any of us really knowing why.

It’s a Mexican-American thing called player hating.  Let me try to explain.

You see, Mexican-American’s will bend over backward to help a fellow Mexican-American.  They will bond together and form an alliance so strong it’s next to impossible to break. More

VARGAS EARNED HIS RIGHT TO LAND THE DE LA HOYA FIGHT

INSIDE BOXING (8/31/02)- Fernando "The Aztec Warrior" Vargas, who is currently the WBA Super Welterweight Champion (22-1, 20 KOs), is a testimony of what sheer determination and courage can do for you. It can land you a lucrative Seven Million dollar payday and an opportunity to take on one of Boxing's hottest Superstars of all time!

On September 14th, Fernando Vargas will challenge "The Golden Boy", Oscar De La Hoya in what should be a very action-packed fight that is a sure bet to provide a great deal of entertainment. GOLDEN BOY IS LIKE 14K

INSIDE BOXING (8/28/02)- Oscar De La Hoya is just like a piece of 14K Gold. I'm sure most of you either own a piece of gold, or know of others that do. When it's new, it is really, really shiny. After it has been worn quite a few times, it becomes dull and loses some of its shine... However, all it takes is a little polishing and it will restore back to the brilliant luster it had when it was new.

This will describe Oscar De La Hoya come Saturday Night on September 14th when he takes on Fernando Vargas in their World Superwelterweight/Jr.Middleweight Championship bout live from the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas (Televised on PAY Per View) starting @ 9:00 PM EST. More
