(IB – July 9, 2003) – On Saturday night July12th, live from the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and broadcasted on HBO as a Don King Production, we will all get to see whether or not Mayorga can repeat his triumph 3rd KO victory over Vernon Forrest in their Welterweight rematch for the WBA/WBC titles.

Mayorga. (25-3, 23 KOs) is riding high coming off the biggest upset of this year in January when he knocked out Forrest. Utilizing a charge-ahead style of winging wide punches, he was able to connect with the perfect shot to the jaw to derail one of boxing’s hottest stars, in Vernon “The Viper” Forrest (35-1, 26 KOs).

Granted, Mayorga deserves respect for taking it to Forrest and being the dominant fighter that night. Since then, Mayorga appears to be even more confident that he can duplicate that performance and Knock Out Forrest again.

I am not sure that will be the outcome that we will witness come Saturday night. I am more inclined to believe that we may very well see the following:

Mayorga, after already boasting that he will end the fight in 2 rounds, will charge Forrest immediately upon the bell ringing in an attempt to lure Forrest into a slugfest.

Only this time, Mayorga will find a more elusive fighter in Forrest. A fighter that will be able to keep him at bay with a long stiff left-jab. This will get old very quickly! It shouldn’t take Forrest long to have Mayorga looking amateurish and unable to solve Forrest’s strategy.

It will be as though he is LOST in a FORREST… Looking for a way out.

Unfortunately, the only way out for Mayorga this night will be over a long haul of 12 rounds of boxing and being outclassed in the sweet science. I am predicting that Forrest will win a very one-sided unanimous decision and recapture his Welterweight titles.

I have to believe that Vernon Forrest truly understands where he went wrong in the 1st bout and make the necessary adjustments.

After all, Forrest is a great fighter and it was more than just having Mosley’s number that led to his stardom.

But hey, don’t take my word for it, call your cable provider and tune into HBO and see for yourself. Better yet, come join me in Vegas and see it LIVE!
