Las Vegas, NV (IB – July 11, 2003) – The weigh-in this afternoon, which was open to the public, drew a very large crowd that was very enthusiastic and there was plenty of electricity in the Showroom at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.

The challenger, Vernon “The Viper” Forrest (35-1, 26 KOs), of Atlanta, Georgia, was weighed first and he came in right at the 147 lb Welterweight limit. Forrest appears to be in great shape and ready to go!

The champion, Ricardo Mayorga (25-3, 23 KOs), of Managua, Nicaragua, approached the scale eating a piece of chicken and weighed-in at 146lbs. One would assume that this was his way to showing confidence that he has easily made the weight of the 147lb limit. Despite all of the pre-fight comments and trash talking that Mayorga had engaged in leading up to this bout, the weigh-in went off without any disruptive violence and was well received by the delightful crowd on hand.

All that is left now, is for these two combatants to enter the ring Saturday night and settle the score. Will Forrest redeem himself and recapture his belts? Or will Mayorga demonstrate that he is ready to sky rocket to stardom by dethroning Forrest twice in a row? Only time will tell.

One of the highlights that took place at today’s weigh-in was in one of the co-featured title bouts on the card between the former IBF Jr. Welterweight Champion Zab “Super” Judah (29-1, 21KOs) and the WBO Jr. Welterweight Champion DeMarcus Corley (28-1-1, 16 KOs). Judah, in an effort to poke fun at Corley for wearing makeup and questioning his manhood, held up pink lingerie in front of Corley as he weighed in and during their posing for picture taking. Corley remained calm during the ordeal.

Don King will be delivering a World Championship Tripleheader on Saturday night per Vivian Harris (22-1-1, 16KOs) will also be defending his WBA Super Lightweight Title against Souleymane M’Baye 27-0, 18 KOs.

This is a very competitive card and the fight fans will be treated to a very good night of boxing.
