"Good morning everybody, I like to start by thanking HBO, Main Events, team Vargas, Fernando himself for accepting this fight. This is a great opportunity for him to fight me. I'm the WBC number one contender and on the poster I know it says it's the return of Fernando Vargas but what they forgot it's the coming out of Fitz the Whip Vanderpool. So I know a lot of you don't know me and like I tell you right now Fitz Vanderpool is going to win this fight. Fitz the Whip Vanderpool is going to be victorious and come July 26th it's going to be an exciting fight. And hope a lot of people tune in and catch this fight and see what it's all about. Thank you God bless." More

Vargas steps back into the ring on Saturday, July 26 to face No.1 contender Fitz
Vanderpool. The Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles will host the event.
It’s been four years since Vargas had a so-called tune-up fight. After
defeating Yory Boy Campas in December of 1998 and becoming the IBF world
champion, Vargas fought a 26-10-2 Howard Clarke.
The Clarke fight would be the last tune-up fight the “Aztec Warrior” would give
himself. For his next eight fights spread out over four years, Vargas would face
only world-class opposition.
“I want to fight the best fighters out there,” is the catch phrase we hear from
today’s top fighters. But few follow up and stand by the quote.
Vargas is the exception. More
