CHAVEZ JR DEFEATS CELAYA

February 9, 2008 (InsideBoxing.com)- Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. ( 35-0-1, 28 Ko’s) passed another test , as he defeated his 2nd south paw in arrow Jose Celaya ( 31-4, 16Ko’s).

The ppv show entitled Latin Fury was promoted by Top Rank along with Promociones Zanfer at the Domo De La Feria , Leon , Guanajuato, Mexico. The sold out crowd and PPV viewers throughout the world witnessed an interesting bout as Celaya , 26 years old ( a 2000 USA Olympic alternate) took on 21 year old Chavez Jr, which had no amateur bouts. Celaya a southpaw switched over to a right handed stance at the beginning and throughout the fight leaving Chavez a bit confused. Even though Chavez Jr. struggled he was able to take down Celaya twice. First in the second round. Chavez surprisingly out of nowhere landed a quick left hook that dropped Celaya for a standing eight count. Leaving Celaya with a nasty swollen cut over his left eye. After the 7th round Chavez’s corner told him that he was losing the fight .Then in the beginning of the 8th round Chavez Jr. nailed Celaya again this time with a strong right hand for another standing eight count. After the knockdown Celaya kept on taking punches to his badly swollen left eye prompting him to quit the bout, he had taken enough damage. The fight was stopped at 2:14 of the 8th round.

After the bout Chavez Jr. acknowledged that it wasn't his best performance and vowed to give a better outing next time out. With the victory Chavez Jr. takes home the vacant WBC Continental Americas Light Middleweight title.

12 Rounds NABF Super Bantamweight Title
Bernabe Concepcion, Binangonan, Philippines (24-1-1,13 Ko’s) vs Juan Ruiz, Santa Clarita, Ca (21-5,6 Ko’s)
In an entertaining bout Concepcion only 20 years old, ranked 11th by the WBC and the WBO comes back strongly between rounds 8 through 12 and retains his NABF Super Bantamweight title by unanimous decision . Scores were 114-111, and 114-112x2.

4 Round Jr Welterweights
Omar Chavez, Culiacan, Mexico (6-0,5 Ko’s) vs Miguel Camacho, Mexico (3-2-1)
The younger (only 18) Chavez scores an impressive 1st round Ko with a strong left hand body shot to Camacho’s ribs. The fight ended at 1:29 in the 1st.

10 Round WBC Latino Middleweight Championship
Marco Antonio Rubio, Georgetown, TX ( 41-4-1, 37 Ko’s) vs Jose Luis Zertuche, Leon, Mexico, (19-5-2, 14 Ko’s)
Hometown favorite Zertuche gets stopped at 2:22 in the 7th round by a barrage of punches to his head, from Rubio, that left him defenseless. Rubio ranked # 6 by the WBC and WBO wins his 7th bout in a row and should move up in the rankings.

12 Rounds WBC Jr Flyweight Title
Edgar Sosa, Mexico City, Mexico (30-5,16 Ko’s) vs Jesus Iribe, Culiacan, Mexico ( 10-4-1, 4Ko’s)
Sosa easily retains his title by winning a unanimous decision with scores of 119-109, and 120-108x2.
