GAMBOA STRIKES AGAIN!!!

to Xtreme Indoor Karting to see the hottest prospect in boxing right now. Twenty seven year old featherweight Yuriorkis “El Ciclon” Gamboa (9-0, 8 Ko’s) ,ranked #5 by the WBA, was making his second appearance in South Florida and first televised appearance on ESPN 2, Friday Night Fights.
Fight fans were not disappointed as Gamboa, from Guantanamo, Cuba a former 2004 Olympic gold medalist put on a spectacular show. He was taking on “Lumberjack” Johnnie Edwards (13-2, 6 KO’s) from Aiken, South Carolina. Edwards had no chance as Gamboa displayed lightning quick hand speed and head movement. Gamboa dropped Edwards twice in the 1st round the first time with a right left combination, and the second time with an amazing three punch combination, that caused referee Brian Garry to stop the fight at 1:34 of the 1st round. With the victory Gamboa took home the vacant NABF junior lightweight title. Gamboa’s 9 straight victories have come from opponents having a combined record of 146 wins and 19 losses. His next scheduled bout is April 11th against Jose Rojas (24-6-1,16Ko’s), at a site yet to be determined.
In other action, another 2004 Olympic gold medalist from Arroyo Naranjo, Cuba bantamweight Yan Barthelemy (5-0,0Ko’s) scored a 6 round unanimous decision by scores of 59-53X3 over Antonio Conchero Diaz (9-9-1,6Ko’s) from Colombia.
In the last televised bout of the evening, the main event, welterweight contender Richard Gutierrez (22-1,13Ko’s)ranked # 10 by the IBF ,from Colombia easily defeated Jose Varela(23-3,16Ko’s)ranked #11 by the WBO, from Nicaragua, in 10 rounds by scores of 99-91,and 98-92X2.
Tonight’s card was the first promoted by Ahmet Oner’s- Arena Box Promotion of Germany in the United States in association with DeCubas Presents of South Florida.
