HOLLYWOOD, FL ( InsideBoxing.com, January 11, 2007) - Boxing returned to the Seminole Hard Rock Arena this Friday night, with ESPN 2 “ Friday Night Fights” televising. In the main event hard punching Edison “ Pantera” Miranda (30-2, 26 kos) from Colombia now residing and training in Carolina, Puerto Rico was taking on Oregon’s David Banks (15-4-1,2Kos) from Contender 3 fame, and trained by Buddy McKirt.

Miranda now in the super middleweight division and ranked 11th by the WBC and WBO,and 12th by the WBA promised at the press conference that he would knock out Banks by the 5th round. It didn’t look that way for the 1st 2 rounds as Banks was back pedaling and Miranda wasn’t throwing many punches. In Miranda’s corner before the 3rd round you could sense the urgency, his trainer telling him that he had to step it up a notch. Miranda responded by issuing a clobbering right hand to Banks head that knocked Banks backwards flying through the air leaving him tangled in the bottom two ropes. As Banks was trying to untangle his way through the ropes and recover he was counted out by at 1:15 in the 3rd round. Now Miranda and his promotional team (Warriors Boxing) are looking for a showdown in June against Jean Pascal .

Pascal ( 21-0,14 Kos) from Haiti living in Canada ranked WBO # 2,WBC # 4, WBA # 8 ,and IBF # 10 was featured in the co-main event taking on Philadelphia’s Omar Pittman (15-4-1,8 Kos). Pascal displayed a quick left jab. In the second round Pascal knocked Pittman down for a standing eight count.
Pascal was cruising until the 7th and 8th rounds when Pittman rocked Pascal on the ropes and throughtout the ring but could not finish him off ,Pittman seemed out of gas, and Pascal was able to recoupe and win the bout by scores 98-91,98-91, and 97-92.

In an exciting 4 rounder local rising star favorite from Miami south paw Joey Hernandez (8-0,2Kos) was making his first appearance at the Hard Rock and he didn’t disappoint he put on a aggressive show and beat Alpachino Allen by scores of 40-36 on all three cards.

There were many boxing celebrates on hand most notably Sultan Ibragimov and Wladimir Klitschko,
Which will put the heavyweight belts up in a clash February 23rd at Madison Square Garden.

Until next time this has been Laz Izada reporting for InsideBoxing.com.
