Miami, FL (InsideBoxing.com, January 27, 2006) On a chilly night in Miami, Tuto Zabala Jr’s All
Star Boxing, Inc. presented the first card of the year at Miccosukee Resort and
Gaming. With temperatures in the low 60’s, an anxious sold out crowd of 2,000
fans showed up to see 7 exciting bouts.
In the main event, televised by Boxeo Telemundo, Mexico’s Cecilio “Boga” Santos (19-5-2, 12 KO’s) TKO’d Columbia’s Jair “Tigrillo” Jimenez (22-4-1, 18 KO’s) with several body punches in the 6th round. With the victory, Santos captured the WBO Latin Jr. Bantamweight title. The anticipated 1st co-main event featuring Miami native and former WBO Jr. Welterweight Champion Randall Bailey (29-5, 27 KO’s) against Mexico’s Antonio Pitalua (40-3, 34 KO’s) was unfortunately cancelled several hours before fight time. While preparing in the dressing room, Bailey passed out and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for dehydration. He was later released from the hospital and is doing fine now. Bailey, only 31 years old, will definitely be back later this year.
In the 2nd co-main event, heavyweight challenger Jameel “Big Time” McCline (34-6-3, 28 KO’s) came out firing punches and knocked out a wobbly Dan Ward (29-18-1, 15 KO’s) at 2:03 of the first round. On the undercard bouts, former Cuban Olympic Team trainer Jorge Rubio had 4 boxers that were victorious. Lightweight Richard Abril (2-0) from Isla de Pinos, Cuba looked the most impressive of the 4 scoring a unanimous decision victory in his 4th round bout against Puerto Rican Andres Navarro (1-2, 1KO). Abril, a former amateur national champ from Cuba, showed good movement, quickness, and accuracy with his punches.
All Star boxing, Inc. plans on having 5 to 6 more shows this year at Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, with the next card taking place on Friday, March 10th.
