The Pros & Cons of being James McGirt, Jr. in Boxing

VERO BEACH, Florida (January 30, 2007) - Being the son of a former world champion, as well as one of boxing's most respected contemporary trainers, certainly has its pros and cons for unbeaten middleweight prospect James McGirt, Jr., who has won all 13 of his pro fights with seven knockouts.

McGirt, 24, was born into boxing, the son of famed James "Buddy" McGirt (73-6-1, 48 KOs), former IBF light welterweight (1987-88) and WBC welterweight champion (1991-93), as well as 2002 Trainer of the Year (Boxing Writers Association of America). "I was a part of boxing from the time I came out November 25, 1982," James said. "My dad always brought me to the gym and fights. I remember seeing so many great fighters in the gym when I was growing up - George Foreman, Julio Cesar Chavez, Pernell Whitaker, Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins, Terry Norris and so many more. Mitchell Twins & Leo Nolan win title belts in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Florida (August 28, 2006) - The Mitchell twins, Aaron and Eric, and Leo "Paco" Nolan were all victorious last night Saturday night in title matches featured on "Fight Night" at Club Cinema in Pompano Beach.

Aaron "Homicide" Mitchell (25-1-1, 20 KOs) captured the vacant IBO International middleweight championship by sixth-round TKO of Christopher "The Hammer" Holt (12-7, 8 KOs) in the main event. Aaron, dating back to 1993, extended his unbeaten streak to 24 (23-0-1, 17 KOs).

Mitchell was slow to start, allowing Holt to punch away, but it was ineffective and only seemed to irritate Aaron. Holt developed a serious cut under his right eye that led to the stoppage at 2:04 of the sixth round. More

Coral Gables, FL (January 17) That’s right boxing fans, professional boxing makes it’s debut on Friday, February 10th, at 8pm at the BankUnited Center on the University of Miami Campus. The $48 Million state of the art facility has a seating capacity of 7,000 with 25 luxury suites. It is the home of the Hurricane’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. The BankUnited Center is also the host to concerts and other campus and community events. The center is managed by Global Spectrum, a subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor, which owns Comcast CSS cable and will televise the card on a delayed basis to 4.5 million subscribers in the southeast.
