GALVAN STOPS LATE SUB HERNANDEZ
LAKE STATION, IN (February 22, 2003) -- Indiana super featherweight champion
Ruben Galvan fought in front of his hometown fans for the first time in two
years, scoring a fifth round TKO over game, but outclassed, Nelson Hernandez of
Milwaukee at the VFW hall here.
The flashy Galvan was scheduled to defend his title against Juan Raul-Llopis of
Ft. Wayne; However, Llopis took a 'tune-up' in Philadelphia and was knocked out
and unable to box in Indiana. The sold out crowd was entertained with the third
pairing of cruiserweights Guy Solis and veteran John "Pappa" Moore. Solis, from
nearby Hammond, won two controversial decisions over Moore, but took this six
round decision decisively. The two stood toe-to-toe most of the bout and
delighted the audience.
Chicago amateur star John Paul Klobacar was victorious in his pro debut with a
second round stoppage over Donald Tucker of Milwaukee.
Good looking, lightweight prospect Angel Hernandez of Gary, Indiana turned pro
with a lightening first round knockout over Chris Rivera.
Chicago veteran Rodney Wilson had to accept a technical draw after a clash of
heads with Eddie Humes of Kentucky and power punching "Tough T" Tim Carrizales
of Waukesha, Wisconsin upset local tough-guy Primo Del Valle with a brutal first
round knockout.
Kern Promotions president premier Indiana promoter Ron Kern was impressed with
the great crowd and is planning on regular events in the area.
