Ortiz fought for the middleweight title against Eldric Bryant which was recently stripped from Carlton Holland who held the title for a year and never defended it. (November 23, 2003, Wilmington, NC) Donnell “The Real Touch of Sleep” Holmes captured the vacant CBA Heavyweight Title with a first round TKO of late replacement Trent Surrant tonight. The “Holmes-coming” took place at his alma mater, Pender High School in front of an enthusiastic crowd on the Bobby Mitchell Promotions card. Holmes [10-0-1] shook off the horrible decision with Mark Doku [a draw] last month in Charleston and left nothing for the judges to decide, pummeling Surrant right from the opening bell, dropping him with a solid overhand right. When he continued his barrage of punches, ref Bill Clancy had seen enough and waived off the fight at 1:36 of the opening round. Holmes jumped at the opportunity to fight for the title after it was vacated by Don Steele. John Haggler, Matt Green and Cornelius Ellis all turned down the chance to fight for the Carolina Boxing Association belt, which covers both states.
Paul “The Italian Hitman” Marinaccio looked impressive in methodically dismantling Casey Truesdale 40-35, 40-35, 40-35. Marinaccio working behind his jab, dropped Truesdale with a straight left after rocking him with a solid right in the first.

“Baby Doll” rocks the RBC Center, Carlton Holland wins WBL 168lb title
Raleigh, NC (IB-January 19, 2003) - Bridget “Baby Doll” Riley rocked the RBC Center in Raleigh N.C. with a six round decision over Angie “Scrapper” Bordelon of New Orleans. The Judges scored the fight 60-52, 59-53, 59-53, but the crowd was the real winner seeing the two lightweights stand toe to toe for 18 minutes. Riley scored two knockdowns in the second round but Bordelon was determined not to lose by a KO. The first knockdown was a cumulative effect of combo’s that Bordelon was unable to avoid, the second was by a straight right and a left hook that seemed to end the fight but at the six count Bordelon shot up like she was hit a cattle prod! Riley came right back at her throwing a myriad of leather that had no further effect on Bordelon. After the fight Riley had nothing but praise for Bordelon who said that her best asset was her heart, but in future training sessions she would work on more angles. Riley moves her record to 14-3 and said that she would love to make the trek from California to N.C. again if given the opportunity. The crowd was so impressed they gave them a standing ovation after the bout More
Primera, Holland win CBA titles
15 November 2002- Junior middleweight Marcos Primera (13-2) won a TKO over Martinius Clay (9-2) and took the CBA title belt for junior middleweights. Clay gave up 10 pounds and 4 inches to fight for the title in front of his home crowd. Primera who was not without his own cheering section was just too much for the smaller Clay who never got out of the box. From the opening bell Primera lashed out with jabs and power shots that slowed Clay down to the point that he was an easy target. Clay was finally stopped in the sixth round after a right hand to the ear sent him to the canvas for the eight count, Primera jumped on the opportunity and the fight was stopped. After the fight Clay said that he would probably go back to fighting at welterweight.
